Stacey is an award winning, provocative, Filmmaker. Her first feature film Landing Up, that she wrote, produced, and starred in, was distributed by The Orchard and was in the Top 10 independent films on iTunes with The Danish Girl and Grand Budapest Hotel. The film received a Best Feature and Best Actress nom for Stacey at the SOHO FF and Dances with Films.Her pilot Linked premiered at Oscar qualifying Cinequest Film Festival. Her feature script HEAD was a finalist at the Outfest screenwriting lab. Her feature script The Other Side was produced by THE BLCKSLST as a radio podcast and starred Stacey, along with Darren Criss, Jerry Adler, and Eddie Kaye Thomas.
Margarita is a Russian/Jewish award-winning actor & filmmaker. As a child, Margarita & their family moved to Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, from Russia, as Jewish refugees. Margarita grew up exploring their identity & studying acting in the heart of NYC. Dedicated to smashing the patriarchy, Margarita embraced writing & producing, leading them to Co-Found Besties Make Movies with Stacey Maltin.
Margarita has accrued several Best Actress nominations for their work in JONES which they wrote and produced. Their film 2 WEEKS about asexuality just premiered at the Oxford Film Festival. They are also honored to be a judge for the Revolution Me Film Festival.
We are badass best friends who run our own eco-friendly production company, driven by immodest, unfiltered, and provocative stories. Our films flip social scripts and represent the reality we want to live in.
